Pubs to Visit
There are many excellent pubs in west Shropshire selling real ale and real cider. We are going to give some suggestions on this page for pubs to visit based around some interesting themes. Try ticking a few off, and although there are no prizes for completing the lists, maybe you can just bask in the satisfaction of getting round a few pubs that you wouldn’t normally think of visiting. And don’t forget to score the beers!
Obviously all the pubs are accessible by car but please try and use some alternative transport, such as bus, train, boat, or bicycle (if you are feeling energetic). Public transport services seem to be in constant decline and if we don’t use trains and buses, even more will get cancelled. They may not be as convenient as a car, but can make a day out more of an event.
Brewery Taps
We have a great selection of brewery tap houses in west Shropshire, where you can sample beers right next to where they are brewed, ideal for those who believe that beers don’t travel well! Have a look at the list of brewery taps on our Beer Producers page by clicking the button below.
Shrewsbury Pubs
Shrewsbury has a huge number of places selling cask ale, so it can be difficult for visitors to know where to start. If you are interested in visiting a few real ale pubs in Shrewsbury, then why not try some of the pub trails we’ve put together? Ranging from short trails around parts of Shrewsbury centre, to longer trails on the outskirts for the slightly fitter ale enthusiasts. Come and give them a try!
Waterside Pubs
With both the Severn and Teme rivers flowing through our branch area, and branches of the Shropshire Union Canal in the north west, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy a pint of ale whilst looking over at a relaxing body of water. Although it has to be said, when the rivers are in flood, the view might not be as relaxing, and some of the pubs actually become inaccessible. Click the button below for our list of waterside pubs in west Shropshire.
Haunted Pubs
How about doing a tour of supposedly haunted pubs for something a bit different? Combine ghost hunting with a pint of real ale in some of our oldest and spookiest pubs. We will be providing a list of pubs that have had reports of ghostly activity soon, and you will also be able to read about the spooky happening that occurred right in front of one of our members in a pub in north Shropshire.
Historical Pubs
In west Shropshire, we have pubs that have been continuously trading for around 600 years, and many other pubs in very old and historically important buildings. There are too many to put in one list, so we will be picking out some of the more interesting ones for you to visit.
