DESCRIPTION:A trip to Salopian Brewery on Thursday 6th February. This is a combined thank you trip for everyone who volunteered or helped in any way at the last Shrewsbury Beer Festival in September 2024\, and also an official branch visit so any branch member is also welcome to come along. The bar will be open for us and there will be the opportunity to speak to brewing staff and to tour the brewery. \n\n\n\nThere is a bus from Shrewsbury bus station that arrives in Hadnall at 5:43pm\, leaving a five minute walk to the brewery\, which will open for us at 6pm. There is a bus back at 8:01pm\, otherwise the branch will pay for shared taxis back to Shrewsbury town centre. \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in coming to the event\, please let Norrie know using the email address below\, so we can let the brewery know how many to expect. The bus is free for everyone who volunteered or helped in any way at the last Shrewsbury Beer Festival in September 2024\, as a thank you for their hard work during the festival. SUMMARY:Public Transport Group Trip to Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Liverpool. The second of this year’s out-of-area PTG trips. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nSuggested train is the 09:26 from Shrewsbury to Chester. Then onwards on the 10:31 from Chester\, arriving Liverpool Central at 11:13. The first pub is an eight minute walk from there. The Anytime Day Return from Shrewsbury to Chester is £16.60 which has no restrictions on outward and return times to/from Chester. Shrewsbury booking office also sells the Merseyrail Day Saver All Areas for £6.20. \n\n\n\nWe will start at Liverpool Central station and walk up the hill to the Philharmonic which opens at 11:00. From there will go to the White Hart a former club which opened as a pub in January last year. To the rear is the Engineer\, part of the same building but has a different ambience and on the last visit\, different beers. \n\n\n\nNext stop the Queen of Hope Street a former restaurant which became a pub in September 2023. A short walk takes us to the St Peter’s Tavern\, a former night club which became a pub in November last year. On to the Monro\, taken over and renovated in August last year. Next the Red Lion converted from a terraced house in 2022. Then an old favourite the Vines (the Big House) renovated in 2023. \n\n\n\nThe connection linking the above pubs\, apart from the Philharmonic\, is they are all run by the same Pub Co. and all offer a CAMRA discount of 10%. Our progress between the pubs will pass other temptations including the Cracke. Opposite the Vines is the Liverpool Brewing Company Tap (CAMRA discount) with Liverpool Central for the homeward journey a short walk away. \n\n\n\nFor more information about our Public Transport Group (PTG) trips\, please see the About Our Events page.

SUMMARY:Young Members ‘For Old Time’s Sake’ Tour
DESCRIPTION:A trip by public transport to the Black Country to visit a selection of pubs in Lower and Upper Gornal\, Sedgley and Wolverhampton. We are hoping to start at The Old Bulls Head in Lower Gornal at midday. The last pub of the day will probably be the Great Western in Wolverhampton.  \n\n\n\nWe are aiming to get the 10:05 train from Shrewsbury. If people could aim to be at the station for 9:45\, then we have to time to organise tickets (there are group travel discounts available and we will need to see how many folks there are). \n\n\n\nAlthough organised as a Young Members’ event\, all members and non-members are welcome on the trip.

DESCRIPTION:Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Oswestry. Please note this is a Friday trip. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nOutward travel is on the 11:00 X5 arriving at Oswestry at 12:00. Note that this is a change from the bus we used to catch at 10:30\, as Arriva have changed the service frequency to every 45 minutes after the peak. However\, for those who would prefer to breakfast at the Wilfred Owen\, an earlier bus leaves Shrewsbury at 10:15 arriving in Oswestry at 11:15. \n\n\n\nAccording to What Pub the town centre now has only 10 cask beer outlets\, 8 fewer than pre-pandemic days. The suggested route is as follows\, which with a few judicious halves\, should enable a score for all the pubs. \n\n\n\nWilfred Owen\, Coach House (before they get busy with diners)\, Bailey Head (CAMRA Pub of the Year)\, Plough\, Griffin\, Fox\, Wynnstay Hotel\, Oak Inn\, Bell\, Black Lion (opens at 16:00). \n\n\n\nBuses back from outside the Black Lion are 16:40 arriving in Shrewsbury at 17:40\, or 17:25 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:20. \n\n\n\nFor more information about our Public Transport Group (PTG) trips\, please see the About Our Events page.

DESCRIPTION:Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Tilley Green & Wem. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nThis will be a slightly more relaxed Wem trip than usual\, as the Dickin Arms and the Fox are both still closed at the moment. So we will be going to one pub in Tilley and four in Wem.    \n\n\n\nTravel Information: \n\n\n\nShrewsbury to Tilley by bus:   On the Arriva 511 bus at 11:45 from Stand L in Shrewsbury bus station. This should arrive at Tilley Green crossroads at 12:24\, leaving a short walk to the Tilley Raven pub. \n\n\n\nTilley to Wem:   A 15 minute walk into Wem town centre. \n\n\n\nWem to Shrewsbury by bus:   The 511 bus goes from outside Wem railway station at 17:10\, arriving at Shrewsbury bus station at 18:02 \n\n\n\nWem to Shrewsbury by train:   Either the 16:34 arriving in Shrewsbury at 16:45\, or the 17:54 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:12    \n\n\n\nPubs: \n\n\n\nTilly Raven (opens at 12:00) \n\n\n\nWarbling Tit \n\n\n\nCastle \n\n\n\nWhite Lion \n\n\n\nHawkestone  (opens at 16:00).   \n\n\n\nFor more information about our Public Transport Group (PTG) trips\, please see the About Our Events page.

Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nTrip Details \n\n\n\nAs the White Bear still seems to be shut\, it leaves us with a maximum of 8 pubs serving cask ale to get round. \n\n\n\nTravel Information \n\n\n\nMost people travelling from Shrewsbury and beyond will be getting to Whitchurch by train\, leaving a 10 minute walk from Whitchurch railway station into the town. The other option is by bus\, which may be cheaper and takes you right into Whitchurch town centre but takes nearly three times as long as the train. \n\n\n\nShrewsbury to Whitchurch by Train:  From platform 7B\, get the 10:19 train which arrives in Whitchurch at 10:47 \n\n\n\nShrewsbury to Whitchurch by Bus:    From Stand L\, either the Arriva 511 bus at 9:45 arriving at Whitchurch Bus Station at 11:10\, or Arriva 512 at 10:45 arriving in Whitchurch at 12:00 \n\n\n\nWhitchurch to Shrewsbury by Train:   Either the 16:26 arriving in Shrewsbury at 16:45\, or the 17:41 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:12\, or the 18:28 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:49 \n\n\n\nWhitchurch to Shrewsbury by Bus:    The 511 bus from the Bus Station outside Tesco at 16:32 arriving at 18:02 \n\n\n\nPubs \n\n\n\nA suggested order of pubs is shown below. The Crafty Dragon have kindly offered to open an hour earlier than normal for us at 3pm. \n\n\n\nRed Cow  (opens at 10:00) \n\n\n\nBlack Bear   (opens at 11:30) \n\n\n\nCock and Greyhound   (opens at 12:00) \n\n\n\nOld Town Hall Vaults   (opens at 12:00) \n\n\n\nBull’s Head   (opens at 12:00) \n\n\n\nOld Eagles   (opens at 11:00) \n\n\n\nCrafty Dragon   (will open at 15:00) \n\n\n\nWheatsheaf   (opens at 12:00) \n\n\n\nFor more information about our Public Transport Group (PTG) trips\, please see the About Our Events page.
