Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nOutward travel on Thursday 19th September is on the 10:19 train ex Shrewsbury\, arriving Whitchurch 10:47\, return on the 16:29 arriving Shrewsbury 16:50. \n\n\n\nFor those who would prefer to use their bus passes the 511 bus leaves the bus station at 09:45 arriving Whitchurch at 11:10. The return bus is at 16:32 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:02. \n\n\n\nFirst call in Whitchurch will be the Black Bear which opens at 11:30. The route will then be Red Cow\, Old Town Hall Vaults\, White Bear\, Crafty Dragon\, Old Eagles\, Bull’s Head. DESCRIPTION:Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to the Strettons. Note that the PTG trips for September\, October and November have been changed round to accommodate a visit to the Stretton Ale House in Church Stretton which was meant to re-open in October. This October trip is now on Thursday 17th instead of the Friday. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nWe start with Minsterley Motors bus No. 435 at 10:55 from Stand N at the bus station. We arrive at Little Stretton at 11:41 for the Green Dragon\, (11:30) then walk on to the Ragleth Inn (12:00). \n\n\n\nNext\, we get the 12:50 bus to Church Stretton arriving 12:55. Unfortunately the Ale House\, which was meant to have re-opened\, is still shut\, so we will be visiting Housmans\, the Kings Arms and the Bucks Head. \n\n\n\nThen on to the Yew Tree at All Stretton on the 15:30 bus. The suggested route is as follows\, which\, with a few judicious halves\, should enable a score for all the pubs. \n\n\n\nWilfred Owen\, Coach House – before they get busy with diners\, Bailey Head\, Plough\, Griffin\, Fox\, Wynnstay Hotel\, Oak Inn\, Bell\, Black Lion opens at 16:00 \n\n\n\nBuses back from outside the Black Lion are the 16:35 arriving in Shrewsbury at 17:33\, or the 17:20 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:15. \n\n\n\nFor more information about our Public Transport Group (PTG) trips\, please see the About Our Events page.

DESCRIPTION:Our annual Christmas Eve Shrewsbury Walkabout. This year\, we will be starting at the Beacon on Copthorne Road at 12pm\, then onto the Bricklayers Arms for 1pm\, and down Frankwell towards town. Members and non-members are all welcome! \n\n\n\nIf you don’t want to walk out to the Beacon\, there are buses that go from Shrewsbury bus station to the Richmond Drive junction on Copthorne Road\, leaving about 100m to walk to the Beacon. The No. 11 Gains Park bus from Stand J at the bus station is the one to catch. This currently goes every 15 minutes throughout the day on Monday to Friday.

DESCRIPTION:Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Shifnal. The first of this year’s out-of-area PTG trips. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nOutward train 10:59 from Shrewsbury arrives Shifnal 11:23. The plan is to visit the pubs in the order below\, although we may have to stagger our visit to the micropub depending on how many there are of us. \n\n\n\nWhat Pub information for opening times and beer selection is as follows:- \n\n\n\nPark House: 11:00 – Hotel with one beer \n\n\n\nKings Yard: 12:00 – Micropub with four beers \n\n\n\nCrown: 12:00 – Four changing local beers \n\n\n\nPlough: 12:00 – Four changing beers \n\n\n\nWheatsheaf: 12:00 – Marstons range \n\n\n\nJaspers Arms: 12:00 – Four beers including Holden’s Golden Glow \n\n\n\nAnvil: 12:00 – Black Country pub with eight beers \n\n\n\nWinking Frog: 15:00 – Young persons pub. DESCRIPTION:A trip to Salopian Brewery on Thursday 6th February. This is a combined thank you trip for everyone who volunteered or helped in any way at the last Shrewsbury Beer Festival in September 2024\, and also an official branch visit so any branch member is also welcome to come along. The bar will be open for us and there will be the opportunity to speak to brewing staff and to tour the brewery. \n\n\n\nThere is a bus from Shrewsbury bus station that arrives in Hadnall at 5:43pm\, leaving a five minute walk to the brewery\, which will open for us at 6pm. There is a bus back at 8:01pm\, otherwise the branch will pay for shared taxis back to Shrewsbury town centre. \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in coming to the event\, please let Norrie know using the email address below\, so we can let the brewery know how many to expect. DESCRIPTION:A trip using a hired bus to Tewkesbury Winter Ales Festival on Saturday 8th February. The bus is free for everyone who volunteered or helped in any way at the last Shrewsbury Beer Festival in September 2024\, as a thank you for their hard work during the festival. SUMMARY:Public Transport Group Trip to Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Liverpool. The second of this year’s out-of-area PTG trips. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nSuggested train is the 09:26 from Shrewsbury to Chester. Then onwards on the 10:31 from Chester\, arriving Liverpool Central at 11:13. The first pub is an eight minute walk from there. The Anytime Day Return from Shrewsbury to Chester is £16.60 which has no restrictions on outward and return times to/from Chester. Shrewsbury booking office also sells the Merseyrail Day Saver All Areas for £6.20. \n\n\n\nWe will start at Liverpool Central station and walk up the hill to the Philharmonic which opens at 11:00. From there will go to the White Hart a former club which opened as a pub in January last year. To the rear is the Engineer\, part of the same building but has a different ambience and on the last visit\, different beers. \n\n\n\nNext stop the Queen of Hope Street a former restaurant which became a pub in September 2023. A short walk takes us to the St Peter’s Tavern\, a former night club which became a pub in November last year. On to the Monro\, taken over and renovated in August last year. Next the Red Lion converted from a terraced house in 2022. Then an old favourite the Vines (the Big House) renovated in 2023. \n\n\n\nThe connection linking the above pubs\, apart from the Philharmonic\, is they are all run by the same Pub Co. and all offer a CAMRA discount of 10%. Our progress between the pubs will pass other temptations including the Cracke. SUMMARY:Young Members ‘For Old Time’s Sake’ Tour
DESCRIPTION:A trip by public transport to the Black Country to visit a selection of pubs in Lower and Upper Gornal\, Sedgley and Wolverhampton. We are hoping to start at The Old Bulls Head in Lower Gornal at midday. The last pub of the day will probably be the Great Western in Wolverhampton.  \n\n\n\nWe are aiming to get the 10:05 train from Shrewsbury. If people could aim to be at the station for 9:45\, then we have to time to organise tickets (there are group travel discounts available and we will need to see how many folks there are). \n\n\n\nAlthough organised as a Young Members’ event\, all members and non-members are welcome on the trip.
