SUMMARY:Black Country Ales - Real Ale Trail
DESCRIPTION:Black Country Ales are running their annual Ale Trail minibus tours this year between the 1st March and 31st May. Our local Black Country Ales pub\, the Royal Oak in Coton Hill\, Shrewsbury\, is putting on an Ale Trail minibus on Saturday 6th April. This will be travelling over to the Black Country at 11am to visit seven of the Black Country Ales pubs\, spending 50 minutes in each one\, and then returning at 8pm. The cost will be approximately £20. \n\n\n\nPlaces on the bus are limited and must be pre-booked by going into the Royal Oak and putting your name on the list.

Members and non-members are very welcome! \n\n\n\nThe recommended bus is the 10:30 X5 from Shrewsbury bus station\, arriving in Oswestry at 11:25. SUMMARY:Public Transport Group Trip to Sedgley and Wolverhampton
DESCRIPTION:Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Sedgley and Wolverhampton. This is the second of our ‘out of area’ PTG trips that we do in January and February each year. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nSuggested train is the 10:30 Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton. The anytime day return fare appears to be £12.30. On arrival at Wolverhampton we will make our way to the old tram stop in Bilston Street and get the No. 1 bus to Sedgley getting off at the Crown public house. \n\n\n\nA short walk takes us to the Beacon Hotel\, home of Sarah Hughes beers. The pub should have three of their beers on plus two guests. \n\n\n\nWhen we are ready to move on we will return to the centre of Sedgley and visit the Swan Inn. The pub re-opened in January and should have six beers on including Kinver. \n\n\n\nOnce again when we are ready to move on we’ll return to Wolverhampton. Depending on our arrival time\, we will try to visit the Duke of York\, Lych Gate Tavern and\, of course\, the Great Western. \n\n\n\nThe fast train back to Shrewsbury leaves at 41 minutes past the hour. \n\n\n\nFor more information about our Public Transport Group (PTG) trips\, please see the About Our Events page.

SUMMARY:Branch Annual Dinner
DESCRIPTION:The branch’s Annual Dinner will be held again at the Prince Rupert Hotel in Shrewsbury on 9th February 2024. Please get there at 7pm as the meal will start at 7:30. All members and partners welcome. \n\n\n\nThe menu is below with the prices\, which are £32.95 for 2 courses and £37.95 for three. If people wish to come\, they need to let Helen Arkell know along with their meal choices\, either in person or by using her Pubs email address (pubs@saws.camra.org.uk). Payment will be needed up front\, but if that is an issue then please contact Helen. \n\n\n\nFor those that haven’t been to an Annual Dinner at the Prince Rupert before\, there is a bar at the hotel where people can order their own drinks. SUMMARY:Festival Thank You Trip
DESCRIPTION:A trip to Salopian Brewery bar for everyone who volunteered at the Shrewsbury Beer Festival in September 2023\, as a thank you for their hard work during the festival. Anyone that helped in any way is welcome to come along. There will be a free bar and we will order takeaway pizza for everyone. \n\n\n\nPlease make your own way to the the brewery\, which opens for us at 7pm. Most people will be travelling by public bus from Shrewsbury to Hadnall. The branch will then book taxis to get people back to Shrewsbury afterwards. SUMMARY:Public Transport Group Trip to Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to the Dale Street area of Liverpool. This is the first of our ‘out of area’ PTG trips that we do in January and February each year. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nSuggested itinerary is as follows:  \n\n\n\nShip & Mitre\, 133 Dale Street;  \n\n\n\nExcelsior\, 121 Dale Street;  \n\n\n\nVernon Arms\, 69 Dale Street;  \n\n\n\nThomas Rigby’s\, 23 Dale Street;  \n\n\n\nLady of Mann\, 19 Dale Street;  \n\n\n\nSaddle Inn\, 13 Dale Street;  \n\n\n\nHole in Ye Wall\, 4 Hackins Hey;  \n\n\n\nDenbeigh Castle\, 10 Hackins Hey \n\n\n\nAll offer a good selection of cask beers although the Saddle will probably only have national brands. All open at 12:00 with the exception of the Ship which opens at 11:00\, making it our first visit. \n\n\n\nSuggested train is the 09:26 from Shrewsbury to Chester. Then onwards on the 10:31 from Chester arriving Liverpool Lime Street at 11:13. The first pub is an eight minute walk from there. The Anytime Day Return from Shrewsbury to Chester is £15.90 which has no restrictions on outward and return times to/from Chester. Shrewsbury booking office also sells the Merseyrail Day Saver All Areas for £5.95. Suggested return is from Moorfields station which gives an opportunity to visit the excellent Lion pub on the way. \n\n\n\nFor those living north of Shrewsbury who are travelling to Liverpool via Crewe\, the 08:57 from Wem / 09:06 from Whitchurch will get to Liverpool Lime Street at 10:42. DESCRIPTION:Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Ludlow. Note this trip has been moved from the 14th December. Members and non-members welcome! \n\n\n\nOutward train 10:40 from Shrewsbury arrives Ludlow 11:09. For those who prefer to use their bus pass\, the 09:55 435 from Shrewsbury bus station gets to Ludlow railway station at 11:10. \n\n\n\nSuggested return trains to enable onward bus connections from Shrewsbury are 16:19\, which arrives in Shrewsbury at 16:48\, or 16:52 arrives 17:24. The 15:55 bus from outside the Compasses arrives in Shrewsbury at 17:11. \n\n\n\nFirst port of call the Railway Shed (Ludlow Brewery bar). For those who don’t know\, there is an extra pub to visit following the re-opening of the George in the market place.
