Branch Pubs
In the Shrewsbury and West Shropshire CAMRA branch area, we have approximately 300 pubs currently open, of which around 240 (80%) sell real ale, and 50 (17%) sell real cider.
Whatever your taste in pubs, we have something to please everybody. From quirky town pubs to remote countryside inns, from pubs with historic interiors to modern micro pubs.
Whether you want a LocAle accredited pub, one that’s dog friendly with a real fire, or maybe one that has live music, the branch list of pubs in the online pub guide on CAMRA’s national website can be filtered down to show pubs that suit your requirements.
Alternately, clicking on a pub on the map here will bring up some brief details, including a link to the pub’s entry in the online pub guide on CAMRA’s national website where an in-depth description can be found. Note that if you happen to get a Redirect Notice from Google, there is no problem, just click on the top link to carry on to the pub’s details.
Our Pub of the Year
The Prince of Wales in Shrewsbury is the Shrewsbury and West Shropshire CAMRA Pub of the Year for 2026.
It has won our Shrewsbury Pub of the Year many times, and also won the overall branch Pub of the Year in 2015, 2016, and 2019. It also reached the last 16 of the CAMRA National Pub of the Year competition in 2019.
The pub has up to six cask beers on, with a good selection of both locally brewed ales and ones from further afield. They also have two beer festivals each year. If the weather allows, you can sit on the veranda at the rear, looking out over the bowling green and 19th century maltings.
For more information, see the Prince of Wales entry in CAMRA’s online pub guide or Facebook page.
To see all our winners and runners up for this year, and also for previous years, please have a look at our Pub of the Year page.
Which Pubs to Visit?
Do you need some suggestions as to which pubs to try in the Shrewsbury and West Shropshire branch area? Well, the Good Beer Guide is a good place to start, as it lists the top 26 pubs in our branch area that consistently serve the best cask ale. Also have a look at our Pub of the Year page to see the winners and runners-up of our branch’s Pub of the Year competition, and our new Pub of the Season page.
The online pub guide on CAMRA’s national website is another good source of information, where you can find more details on individual pubs, and produce lists of pubs based on chosen criteria.
However, to save you having to do too much research, we have put together some lists of pubs to try based on different themes, such as brewery taps or waterside pubs. We have also created some suggested pub trails too. All these can be found on our Pub Suggestions page.
