Branch Pubs
In the Shrewsbury and West Shropshire CAMRA branch area, we have approximately 304 pubs currently open, of which 250 (82%) sell real ale, and 53 (17%) sell real cider.
Whatever your taste in pubs, we have something to please everybody. From quirky town pubs to remote countryside inns, from pubs with historic interiors to modern micro pubs.
Whether you want a LocAle accredited pub, one that’s dog friendly with a real fire, or maybe one that has live music, the branch list of pubs on the WhatPub website can be filtered down to show pubs that suit your requirements.
Alternately, clicking on a pub on the map here will bring up some brief details, including a link to the pub’s entry on WhatPub where an in-depth description can be found.
Our Pub of the Year
The superb Bailey Head in Oswestry is our current Pub of the Year.
It has won our Market Towns Pub of the Year many times, and also won the Pub of the Year in 2018 and 2023. The Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) named the pub the UK’s Best Rural Independent Craft Beer Pub or Bar 2020 and it has been a finalist numerous times.
The pub normally has six cask beers, and up to eleven other draught beers, just over half of which are KeyKeg. Four CAMRA-approved ciders and a perry are also available on handpull. For more information, see the Bailey Head’s WhatPub entry or Facebook page.
To see all our winners and runners up for this year, and also for previous years, please have a look at our Pub of the Year page.
Which Pubs to Visit?
Do you need some suggestions as to which pubs to try in the Shrewsbury and West Shropshire branch area? Well, the Good Beer Guide is a good place to start, as it lists the top 26 pubs in our branch area that consistently serve the best cask ale. Also have a look at our Pub of the Year page to see the winners and runners-up of our branch’s Pub of the Year competition.
The WhatPub website and the Good Beer Guide App are other good sources of information, where you can find more details on individual pubs, and produce lists of pubs based on chosen criteria.
However, to save you having to do too much research, we have put together some lists of pubs to try based on different themes, such as brewery taps or waterside pubs. We have also created some suggested pub trails too. All these can be found on our Pubs to Visit page.
