Fundraising has now started as part of a community-led campaign to save the Horse and Jockey in Northwood. The pub, situated halfway between Ellesmere and Wem, has been closed since the end of September 2022.

In December, the local community successfully obtained an ACV for the pub (Asset of Community Value), which is a major step in preventing it from immediately being redeveloped. The next step being looked at is a community-led purchase of the pub through the Community Right to Bid, where the community have until May to raise enough funds to purchase the pub.

Members of the community have set up a “Friends of the Horse and Jockey” group on Facebook, where more information can be found. A website has been set up as well at www.horseandjockeynorthwood.co.uk.
