  • Committee Meeting

    Shrewsbury & West Shropshire CAMRA committee meeting, at the Prince of Wales, Shrewsbury. All members welcome. Note that the start time for the committee meetings held at the Prince of Wales will now be 7:15pm, to give people who are getting the train to Shrewsbury time to walk across town to the pub.   • Public Transport Group Trip to the Strettons

    Trip starts at Shrewsbury Bus Station Raven Meadows, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, United Kingdom

    Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to the Strettons. Note that the PTG trips for September, October and November have been changed round to accommodate a visit to the Stretton Ale House in Church Stretton which was meant to re-open in October. This October trip is now on Thursday 17th instead of the Friday. Members and non-members welcome! We start with Minsterley Motors bus No. 435 at 10:55 from Stand N at the bus station. We arrive at Little Stretton at 11:41 for the Green Dragon, (11:30) then walk on to the Ragleth Inn (12:00). Next, we get the 12:50 bus to Church Stretton arriving 12:55. Unfortunately the Ale House, which was meant to have re-opened, is still shut, so we will be visiting Housmans, the Kings Arms and the Bucks Head. Then on to the Yew Tree at All Stretton on the 15:30 bus. The 435 leaves All Stretton at 16:35 and arrives at the Shrewsbury bus station at 17:11.   • Public Transport Group Trip to Oswestry

    Trip starts at Shrewsbury Bus Station Raven Meadows, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, United Kingdom

    Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Oswestry. Note that the PTG trips for September, October and November have been changed round to accomodate a visit to the Stretton Ale House in Church Stretton which re-opens in October. This November trip is now on Friday 22nd instead of the Thursday. Outward travel is on the 10:30 X5 from Shrewsbury Bus Station, arriving at Oswestry at 11:27. According to What Pub the town centre now has only 10 cask beer outlets, 8 fewer than pre-pandemic days. The suggested route is as follows, which, with a few judicious halves, should enable a score for all the pubs. Wilfred Owen, Coach House – before they get busy with diners, Bailey Head, Plough, Griffin, Fox, Wynnstay Hotel, Oak Inn, Bell, Black Lion opens at 16:00 Buses back from outside the Black Lion are the 16:35 arriving in Shrewsbury at 17:33, or the 17:20 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:15.   • Public Transport Group Trip to Ludlow

    Trip starts at Shrewsbury Railway Station Castle Foregate, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, United Kingdom

    Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Ludlow. Members and non-members welcome! The outward train at 10:47 from Shrewsbury railway station arrives in Ludlow at 11:17. For those who prefer to use their bus pass, the 09:55 435 from Shrewsbury bus station arrives at Ludlow railway station at 11:10. First port of call will be Ludlow Brewery, next to the railway station. Suggested return trains for bus connections in Shrewsbury are the 16:20 train which arrives in Shrewsbury at 16:52, or the 16:52 which arrives at 17:25. Alternatively, the 15:30 bus from outside the Compasses arrives in Shrewsbury at 16:44. For those who want to stay later, the Blood Bay and the Dog Hangs Well both open at 17:00.
