Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Whitchurch. Outward travel from Shrewsbury railway station is on the 10:19 train arriving Whitchurch 10:47, returning on the 16:29 train arriving Shrewsbury 16:50. For those who would prefer to use their bus passes the 511 bus leaves the bus station at 09:45 arriving Whitchurch at 11:06. The return bus is at 15:22 arriving in Shrewsbury at 16:53. First call will be the White Bear, followed by the Black Bear, then across to the Cock & Greyhound and back down the High Street. The last stop will be the Wheatsheaf.
Come and join us for an afternoon of real ale and quizzing. Come and visit some of Shrewsbury's great pubs and have a go at some questions on the way. Questions will cover a variety of subjects as well as beef facts and even some to test your powers of observation! There's no pressure to get them all correct, just come along and have fun! We are starting at the Royal Oak in Coton Hill at 12:30. Jonathan at the Royal Oak has kindly said he'll ensure that there will be a good range of beers on from a porter/stout to pale ale, so it should be a good start to the day!

Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Ludlow. Note this trip has been moved from the 14th December. Members and non-members welcome! Outward train 10:40 from Shrewsbury arrives Ludlow 11:09. For those who prefer to use their bus pass, the 09:55 435 from Shrewsbury bus station gets to Ludlow railway station at 11:10. Suggested return trains to enable onward bus connections from Shrewsbury are 16:19, which arrives in Shrewsbury at 16:48, or 16:52 arrives 17:24. The 15:55 bus from outside the Compasses arrives in Shrewsbury at 17:11. First port of call the Railway Shed (Ludlow Brewery bar). For those who don’t know, there is an extra pub to visit following the re-opening of the George in the market place. Christmas Eve Shrewsbury Walkabout. Starting at the Peacock on Wenlock Road at 12pm, then onto the White Horse at the Column, then down Abbey Foregate towards town. Members and non-members welcome!

Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to the Dale Street area of Liverpool. This is the first of our 'out of area' PTG trips that we do in January and February each year. Members and non-members welcome! Suggested itinerary is as follows: Ship & Mitre, 133 Dale Street; Excelsior, 121 Dale Street; Vernon Arms, 69 Dale Street; Thomas Rigby’s, 23 Dale Street; Lady of Mann, 19 Dale Street; Saddle Inn, 13 Dale Street; Hole in Ye Wall, 4 Hackins Hey; Denbeigh Castle, 10 Hackins Hey All offer a good selection of cask beers although the Saddle will probably only have national brands. All open at 12:00 with the exception of the Ship which opens at 11:00, making it our first visit. Suggested train is the 09:26 from Shrewsbury to Chester. Then onwards on the 10:31 from Chester arriving Liverpool Lime Street at 11:13. The first pub is an eight minute walk from there. The Anytime Day Return from Shrewsbury to Chester is £15.90 which has no restrictions on outward and return times to/from Chester. Shrewsbury booking office also sells the Merseyrail Day Saver All Areas for £5.95. Suggested return is from Moorfields station which gives an opportunity to visit the excellent Lion pub on the way. For those living north of Shrewsbury who are travelling to Liverpool via Crewe, the 08:57 from Wem / 09:06 from Whitchurch will get to Liverpool Lime Street at 10:42.
