Off at Tilley Green crossroads and walk to the Tilley Raven. Then a walk into Wem. The White Lion, Castle, and Warbling Tit will all be open by then. The Dickin Arms opens at 14:00. The Hawkstone Arms opens at 16:00. The Fox opens at 16:30. If returning by bus, the 17:10 from Wem railway station arrives at Shrewsbury bus station 17:55 If returning by train, the 16:38 from Wem railway station arrives at Shrewsbury railway station 16:50, or the 17:55 from Wem railway station arrives at Shrewsbury railway station 18:11. Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Whitchurch. Members and non-members welcome! Outward travel is on the 10:19 train ex Shrewsbury arriving Whitchurch 10:47, return on the 16:29 arriving Shrewsbury 16:50. For those who would prefer to use their bus passes, the 511 bus leaves the bus station at 09:45 arriving Whitchurch at 11:07. The return bus is at 16:37 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:04. First call will be the White Bear open at 11:00  followed by the Black Bear open at 11:30. We would then normally cross to the Cock & Greyhound but apparently it no longer has cask beer. The route will then be Red Cow, Old Town Hall Vaults, Old Eagles, Bull’s Head. We will then visit the Crafty Dragon, a new venue for our Whitchurch trip. We will then finish at the Wheatsheaf. Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Ludlow. Members and non-members welcome! Outward train 10:40 from Shrewsbury arrives Ludlow 11:09. For those who prefer to use their bus pass, the 09:55 435 gets to Ludlow railway station at 11:10. Suggested return trains for bus connections in Shrewsbury are 16:19, which arrives in Shrewsbury at 16:49, or 16:52 arrives 17:23. The 15:55 bus from outside the Compasses arrives in Shrewsbury at 17:11. First port of call will be the Railway Shed (Ludlow Brewery). Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Whittington, Welsh Frankton and Ellesmere. Members and non-members welcome! We will be taking the 11:30 Arriva X5 bus from Shrewsbury Bus Station, arriving in Whittington at 12:09. We will be visiting the Olde Boote and the White Lion, which are both open at 12:00. Then on the 13:41 Lakeside 449 bus, arriving at Welsh Frankton at 13:46. There we will be visiting the Narrowboat, which is open from 12:00. Departing Welsh Frankton at 14:46 by bus, we will arrive at Ellesmere at 14:53. Pubs available to visit before 16:00 will be the Swan, Red Lion and Market Hotel. After 16:00, the Vaults Micro Bar, Ellesmere Hotel and White Hart will be open.  The return journey will be on the Lakeside 501 bus at 17:10, which will arrive in Shrewsbury at 17:55. Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Bishops Castle and Pontesbury. Members and non-members welcome! Outward bus is the 10:05 from Stand N at Shrewsbury bus station. We will arrive at Salop Street Jcn, Bishops Castle, at 11:03. The Castle Hotel opens at 11:00, then on to the Three Tuns and the Six Bells. We will then get the 13:30 bus from opposite the Boar’s Head, arriving at Pontesbury at 14:03. A short walk down Chapel Street brings us to the Plough which opens at 14:00, from there we walk to the Nag’s Head. The bus back to Shrewsbury will be the 16:15 from the stop outside the Nag’s Head arriving at Shrewsbury bus station at 16:40. For those who would prefer to use their bus passes the 511 bus leaves the bus station at 09:45 arriving Whitchurch at 11:10. The return bus is at 16:32 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:02. First call in Whitchurch will be the Black Bear which opens at 11:30. The route will then be Red Cow, Old Town Hall Vaults, White Bear, Crafty Dragon, Old Eagles, Bull’s Head. Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to the Strettons. Note that the PTG trips for September, October and November have been changed round to accommodate a visit to the Stretton Ale House in Church Stretton which was meant to re-open in October. This October trip is now on Thursday 17th instead of the Friday. Members and non-members welcome! We start with Minsterley Motors bus No. 435 at 10:55 from Stand N at the bus station. We arrive at Little Stretton at 11:41 for the Green Dragon, (11:30) then walk on to the Ragleth Inn (12:00). Next, we get the 12:50 bus to Church Stretton arriving 12:55. Unfortunately the Ale House, which was meant to have re-opened, is still shut, so we will be visiting Housmans, the Kings Arms and the Bucks Head. Then on to the Yew Tree at All Stretton on the 15:30 bus. The 435 leaves All Stretton at 16:35 and arrives at the Shrewsbury bus station at 17:11. Note that the PTG trips for September, October and November have been changed round to accomodate a visit to the Stretton Ale House in Church Stretton which re-opens in October. This November trip is now on Friday 22nd instead of the Thursday. Outward travel is on the 10:30 X5 from Shrewsbury Bus Station, arriving at Oswestry at 11:27. According to What Pub the town centre now has only 10 cask beer outlets, 8 fewer than pre-pandemic days. The suggested route is as follows, which, with a few judicious halves, should enable a score for all the pubs. Wilfred Owen, Coach House – before they get busy with diners, Bailey Head, Plough, Griffin, Fox, Wynnstay Hotel, Oak Inn, Bell, Black Lion opens at 16:00 Buses back from outside the Black Lion are the 16:35 arriving in Shrewsbury at 17:33, or the 17:20 arriving in Shrewsbury at 18:15. For those who prefer to use their bus pass, the 09:55 435 from Shrewsbury bus station arrives at Ludlow railway station at 11:10. First port of call will be Ludlow Brewery, next to the railway station. Suggested return trains for bus connections in Shrewsbury are the 16:20 train which arrives in Shrewsbury at 16:52, or the 16:52 which arrives at 17:25. Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Shifnal. The first of this year's out-of-area PTG trips. Members and non-members welcome! Outward train 10:59 from Shrewsbury arrives Shifnal 11:23. The plan is to visit the pubs in the order below, although we may have to stagger our visit to the micropub depending on how many there are of us. What Pub information for opening times and beer selection is as follows:- Park House: 11:00 - Hotel with one beer Kings Yard: 12:00 - Micropub with four beers Crown: 12:00 - Four changing local beers Plough: 12:00 - Four changing beers Wheatsheaf: 12:00 - Marstons range Jaspers Arms: 12:00 - Four beers including Holden’s Golden Glow Anvil: 12:00 - Black Country pub with eight beers Winking Frog: 15:00 - Young persons pub. Had Doom Bar on my last visit to Shifnal Bell: 17:00 - Two beers  Return trains to Shrewsbury are at 20 and 26 minutes past the hour. Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Liverpool. The second of this year's out-of-area PTG trips. Members and non-members welcome! Suggested train is the 09:26 from Shrewsbury to Chester. Then onwards on the 10:31 from Chester, arriving Liverpool Central at 11:13. The first pub is an eight minute walk from there. The Anytime Day Return from Shrewsbury to Chester is £16.60 which has no restrictions on outward and return times to/from Chester. Shrewsbury booking office also sells the Merseyrail Day Saver All Areas for £6.20. We will start at Liverpool Central station and walk up the hill to the Philharmonic which opens at 11:00. From there will go to the White Hart a former club which opened as a pub in January last year. To the rear is the Engineer, part of the same building but has a different ambience and on the last visit, different beers. Next stop the Queen of Hope Street a former restaurant which became a pub in September 2023. A short walk takes us to the St Peter’s Tavern, a former night club which became a pub in November last year. On to the Monro, taken over and renovated in August last year. Next the Red Lion converted from a terraced house in 2022. Then an old favourite the Vines (the Big House) renovated in 2023. The connection linking the above pubs, apart from the Philharmonic, is they are all run by the same Pub Co. and all offer a CAMRA discount of 10%. Our progress between the pubs will pass other temptations including the Cracke. Opposite the Vines is the Liverpool Brewing Company Tap (CAMRA discount) with Liverpool Central for the homeward journey a short walk away. Note that this is a change from the bus we used to catch at 10:30, as Arriva have changed the service frequency to every 45 minutes after the peak. However, for those who would prefer to breakfast at the Wilfred Owen, an earlier bus leaves Shrewsbury at 10:15 arriving in Oswestry at 11:15.
