Beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Whitchurch. Depart from Shrewsbury railway station at 10:19 arriving in Whitchurch at 10:47. Suggested return at 16:29 arriving in Shrewsbury at 16:50. By bus, take the 511 at 09:45 from Shrewsbury bus station arriving 11:06, suggested return at 16:37 arriving at 18:05. It's a longer journey by bus but free for bus pass holders. Suggested itinerary is to start at the White Bear at 11:00am, followed by the Black Bear at 11:30. Then on to the Cock & Greyhound, Red Cow, Old Town Hall Vaults, Wheatsheaf, Bull’s Head and finishing in the Old Eagles.

First pub will be the Railway Shed (Ludlow Brewery). Suggested return at a) 16:19 which arrives in Shrewsbury at 16:48 or b) 16:52 which arrives at 17:24. For those who want to stay later, the Blood Bay and the Dog Hangs Well open at 17:00.

Depart Whittington at 13:41 for the Narrow Boat at Welsh Frankton. Depart Welsh Frankton at 14:46 for Ellesmere. Depart Ellesmere at 17:10 to arrive back in Shrewsbury at 17:55.

Depart Bishops Castle at 13:30 from outside the Boar's Head, arriving in Pontesbury at 14:00. Bus back to Shrewsbury at 16:15 from outside the Nag's Head, arriving back in Shrewsbury at 16:40.

Itinerary: First stop the Green Dragon, opens 11:30, at Little Stretton and then walk on to the Ragleth. Next, 12:50 bus to Church Stretton arriving 12:55. Two pubs to visit, Kings Arms and Bucks Head. The former Catch, now No. 46, is a cafe until 16:00 but they have very kindly agreed to open the bar early for us. Then on to the Yew Tree at All Stretton on the 14:30 bus. Next the 15:35 to Bayston Hill arriving 15:59. The Three Fishes is open all day and the Compasses opens at 16:00. The 435 leaves at 16:59 and arrives at the bus station at 17:11.

Bus return times are 16:35, 17:20, or 18:05 from Oswestry bus station. First stop will be the Wilfred Owen which is currently part of the Wetherspoon’s beer festival, so should have some different beers on. Everyone is welcome to come along. Hope to see you there!

Outward travel from Shrewsbury railway station is on the 10:19 train arriving Whitchurch 10:47, returning on the 16:29 train arriving Shrewsbury 16:50. For those who would prefer to use their bus passes the 511 bus leaves the bus station at 09:45 arriving Whitchurch at 11:06. The return bus is at 15:22 arriving in Shrewsbury at 16:53. First call will be the White Bear, followed by the Black Bear, then across to the Cock & Greyhound and back down the High Street. The last stop will be the Wheatsheaf.

Suggested return trains to enable onward bus connections from Shrewsbury are 16:19, which arrives in Shrewsbury at 16:48, or 16:52 arrives 17:24. The 15:55 bus from outside the Compasses arrives in Shrewsbury at 17:11. First port of call the Railway Shed (Ludlow Brewery bar). For those who don’t know, there is an extra pub to visit following the re-opening of the George in the market place. Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to the Dale Street area of Liverpool. This is the first of our 'out of area' PTG trips that we do in January and February each year. Members and non-members welcome! Suggested itinerary is as follows: Ship & Mitre, 133 Dale Street; Excelsior, 121 Dale Street; Vernon Arms, 69 Dale Street; Thomas Rigby’s, 23 Dale Street; Lady of Mann, 19 Dale Street; Saddle Inn, 13 Dale Street; Hole in Ye Wall, 4 Hackins Hey; Denbeigh Castle, 10 Hackins Hey All offer a good selection of cask beers although the Saddle will probably only have national brands. All open at 12:00 with the exception of the Ship which opens at 11:00, making it our first visit. Suggested train is the 09:26 from Shrewsbury to Chester. Then onwards on the 10:31 from Chester arriving Liverpool Lime Street at 11:13. The first pub is an eight minute walk from there. The Anytime Day Return from Shrewsbury to Chester is £15.90 which has no restrictions on outward and return times to/from Chester. Shrewsbury booking office also sells the Merseyrail Day Saver All Areas for £5.95. Suggested return is from Moorfields station which gives an opportunity to visit the excellent Lion pub on the way. For those living north of Shrewsbury who are travelling to Liverpool via Crewe, the 08:57 from Wem / 09:06 from Whitchurch will get to Liverpool Lime Street at 10:42. Social trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Sedgley and Wolverhampton. This is the second of our 'out of area' PTG trips that we do in January and February each year. Members and non-members welcome! Suggested train is the 10:30 Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton. The anytime day return fare appears to be £12.30. On arrival at Wolverhampton we will make our way to the old tram stop in Bilston Street and get the No. 1 bus to Sedgley getting off at the Crown public house. A short walk takes us to the Beacon Hotel, home of Sarah Hughes beers. The pub should have three of their beers on plus two guests. When we are ready to move on we will return to the centre of Sedgley and visit the Swan Inn. The pub re-opened in January and should have six beers on including Kinver. Once again when we are ready to move on we’ll return to Wolverhampton. Depending on our arrival time, we will try to visit the Duke of York, Lych Gate Tavern and, of course, the Great Western.
