This will be a slightly more relaxed Wem trip than usual, as the Dickin Arms and the Fox are both still closed at the moment. So we will be going to one pub in Tilley and four in Wem. Travel Information: Shrewsbury to Tilley by bus:   On the Arriva 511 bus at 11:45 from Stand L in Shrewsbury bus station. This should arrive at Tilley Green crossroads at 12:24, leaving a short walk to the Tilley Raven pub. Tilley to Wem:   A 15 minute walk into Wem town centre. Trip Details As the White Bear still seems to be shut, it leaves us with a maximum of 8 pubs serving cask ale to get round. Travel Information Most people travelling from Shrewsbury and beyond will be getting to Whitchurch by train, leaving a 10 minute walk from Whitchurch railway station into the town. The other option is by bus, which may be cheaper and takes you right into Whitchurch town centre but takes nearly three times as long as the train. The Unicorn has just re-opened as a Black Country Ales pub, so we will have a possible 17 pubs serving real ale to choose from in or near the town centre. Travel Information Most people travelling from Shrewsbury and beyond will be getting to Ludlow by train, leaving a few minutes walk from Ludlow railway station to Ludlow Brewery, which will be our first beer stop. The other option is by bus, which takes 1 hr 15 mins and drops you off by the railway station. Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Whittington, Welsh Frankton and Ellesmere. Members and non-members welcome! For those that haven’t been before, Whittington is a picturesque village near Oswestry with two pleasant pubs, the Narrow Boat Inn near Welsh Frankton is in a superb position next to the canal, and Ellesmere has an interesting range of pubs including the White Hart, a regular Good Beer Guide entry. The Black Lion has recently reopened in Ellesmere, so that will be worth checking out too. We will be going to 2 pubs in Whittington, 1 near Welsh Frankton, and up to 7 pubs in Ellesmere. Due to bus timings, we will get just under an hour in each of the first 3 pubs, but then just over two hours to do as many Ellesmere pubs as we can fit in. We may have to split up to cover them all.  Travel Information We will meet at Shrewsbury bus station just before 11:00, to get the Oswestry bus, usually from Stand G. Please note that the bus times have changed since last year, so we are setting off a bit earlier from Shrewsbury, and the bus back from Ellesmere is now slightly later. Social and beer scoring trip by public transport from Shrewsbury to Bishops Castle & Pontesbury. Members and non-members welcome! This month’s PTG trip will on Thursday 21st August to Bishops Castle and Pontesbury by bus. This is going to be a more relaxed trip than normal, as we only have 2 pubs available to visit in Bishops Castle due to the Three Tuns being temporarily closed. However, the two open pubs include the Castle Hotel which is a current GBG entry and has one of the best beer gardens in our branch area, and the Six Bells which normally has a choice of 5 real ales. We will also be calling in at Pontesbury on the way back to visit the Plough and the Nag’s Head, both decent pubs each with 3 ales on.  Travel Information We will meet at Shrewsbury bus station at 10:00, to get the Bishops Castle bus, usually from Stand N. We will have at 8 pubs to visit in Little Stretton, Church Stretton and All Stretton. These will include two Good Beer Guide pubs: the Green Dragon in Little Stretton and the Yew Tree in All Stretton. Also, the Old Bike Shop in Church Stretton has very kindly offered to open an hour earlier for us at 3pm. This month’s PTG trip will be on Friday 17th October to Oswestry by bus. We have up to 10 pubs to visit in Oswestry including the Bailey Head, CAMRA’s Pub of the Year, and two other Good Beer Guide entries - the Oak Inn and the Bell.  The suggested order of pubs is shown below.
